I recently met a woman who earned quite a bit of money as a very part-time chef. Once a week, she would go to someone’s house and prepare a homemade meal for their family, then do all the dishes and cleanup work. This gives the family plenty of together time, while putting some cash in the woman’s pocket. If you love to cook, this can be a great opportunity, but you may have to put a lot of effort into searching for clients.

Reinvent/improve on someone else’s product. Simply find a not very good item that is selling well and create a better version of it. You can even find the same factory that makes the original item and get them to do your manufacturing. As of 2016, this is the easiest and still a very profitable route to take.

If you are thinking about opening a wholesale business, think twice! Although it’s typically easy and quick to be able to reach a high level of sales in this industry, you’ll find it a lot harder to earn a decent profit margin or perhaps even stay afloat at all. Most wholesale businesses operate on very thin profit margins that are possible only because of highly sophisticated and efficient operating procedures, tight credit and collections control, and most of all, a large volume of sales over which to spread overhead.

Social media is the best way to promote your business on the cheap. Beyond that, it really depends on what your business is. Roadside advertisements are a great way to attract consumers, but not particularly effective if you are a wholesale company. For a wholesale or investment business, the best ways to promote vary greatly, so just identify your clientele and think about how other businesses advertise to them. Also, never be afraid to self promote.
