Oh my God…People act like starting up a lawn care business is difficult. I have a full-time job as a software sales rep, and my buddy & I decided to make some easy extra cash. We started this spring, just posted ads on Craiglist for free (and make sure you are updating multiple ads on there each day), and we’re up to 28 accounts in St Paul, MN, and we rev just shy of 4k/month. I would say it takes us 10-12 hours together to bang them out. We cruise out on Friday after work, and finish up on Saturday. It’s not rocket science…The one bit of advise I can give you is, in my opinion, going after residentials are best, and stay away from commercial unless it’s cake….don’t low ball to gain business…I found it to be nice to find realtors who own multiple rental properties as well. They just want their cash cows to look presentable, and their tenants are typically never out when you show up so it’s easy sailing. Best of luck.
Offer expertise in an area. Even if the product itself isn’t very unique, your expertise might be a strong selling point. If you’re selling a line of skincare products, for example, it helps if you have a degree in a field related to skin health.
I have seen experienced, full-time builders get fleeced by contractors who either run out of money or take some payments in advance and disappear. This situation can be particularly messy and costly if a contractor that you have paid never gave money to the subcontractors, leaving you to pay for the same work twice!

Retail is a lot tougher than ever before, and it’s getting more difficult every day! Why? In addition to the huge discount department store chains like Walmart continuing to take market share, the so-called category-killer superstores or big box stores continue to threaten smaller retailers in all kinds of categories. Then on top of that, you have the Internet companies, like Amazon, which are more than willing to run their business at a loss today in hopes of making it up at some point in the distant future.
The hunt for funding has been the bane of an entrepreneur’s existence from times of yore. Many abandon their dream to build, create, and innovate in the face of this difficult struggle without realising that a good business idea will eventually pool in the bounty-full once it has secured a place in the market.
Restaurants have a sky-high failure rate. Steady, loyal patronage may take years to build, and it can be very difficult to rapidly accelerate the process, even with elaborate marketing campaigns. Owners of successful restaurants usually have extensive restaurant experience, work endless hours, and either rely on their large close-knit families for assistance or have a special knack for attracting, retaining, and motivating good kitchen help and waitstaff. On the other hand, to emphasize how hard the business is, many owners of failed restaurants also possess these so-called “success traits.”
If you have been signing-on for over 12 months and you are considering starting your own business, the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance (BTWEA) allows you to keep your social welfare payment for 2 years (100% in the year one, reducing to 75% in the second year).

Non-profits, universities, hospitals and other community organizations all have a great need for grant money to supplement their budgets, but grants are notoriously tricky to write for the first time. It is no secret that having an online presence is a great way of drumming up sales for a small business, and trading online will allow you to attract new customers. Unfortunately for many small businesses, the idea of e-commerce can be daunting. There is a myth that suggests trading online is expensive and that you really need to employ an agency to build and run a custom website. The reality is that you can build a successful online business from as little as £20 per month. I did.

Amazon has a secret formula that determines what shows up when people search for something. It’s secret but we can take a guess at how logically it could work. It is known as the Amazon Search algorithm.

My father does this with tomatoes and earns some solid extra money during the summer months. You can do really well, though, if you can grow things inside during the winter – February fresh tomatoes can sell quite well.
Part of trusting the system is focusing on ONE step at a time, not jumping ahead. I have a proprietary process to show you how to identify what you’re ALREADY great at… and what the market will pay for. You need to find a burning pain.

The manager-managed LLC, where only designated members (or even outsiders) are given the responsibility of running the LLC. While this is a less common structure than the member-managed LLC, it can be useful when some members only want to be passive investors. In addition, this structure may be advantageous if you have some members that are not particularly skilled in managing, or when your ownership is too large or diverse to allow for everyone to manage.

However, there is a lot of money out there in local advertising. My college newspaper and my want-advertiser publication were both richly supported by local advertising – and today I see that market being replaced by local online websites and blogs.
This business is easy to market too. Of course you can have a website, but I’d also walk around door to door with simple flyers and a warm smile! Don’t forget to stop by my house! I’m always looking for a better landscape service!
I have been selling online through an Amazon FBA business since 2013, but I haven’t really spoken about it much on this blog. I hesitate because to a reader I think it sounds too easy. There are a lot of the articles written about Amazon FBA and they too often just like a scammy get-rich-quick scheme.
A lead magnet is basically a piece of content that you give away for for free to potential customers, in order to capture their attention and convince them to hand over their contact information. Most people aren’t going to sign up to your mailing list just for the sake of it, so a lead magnet allows you to ask for something in exchange for something your audience finds valuable.

One evening, I decided to list a couple of the spare parts on eBay to see if anyone would buy them. I would like to say the parts went like hotcakes and it was an overnight success, but sadly they didn’t. Thankfully, I decided to try again with slightly different listing text and managed to sell one of the spare parts for the grand sum of £100. One down and only 200 to go. At this rate, I would be able to see my desk in three years.

You might as well shoot off the same message to lots of different factories and then play them off against each other. The factories know the value of even a new Amazon FBA business and will want to work with you.
Remember my earlier post about breakfast burritos? Making meals in advance is a great way to save money for yourself – but you can often prepare these for others as well and sell them for a markup. Prepare eight casseroles, for example, then sell six of them to cover your costs, and you’ve got two free dinners for your family (and maybe a bit more). You can grow this by taking orders from others and finding out what they like.
